Introduction to Relief Printmaking

 Use a variety of printmaking blocks with non-toxic, water-based inks. This course will examine different approaches to line-work and mark making from graphic and angular to painterly and gestural. Students will be introduced to image preparation and transfer methods, sharpening and care of tools, carving methods, ink and paper preparation, rolling techniques, printing on an etching press, and by hand. Prerequisite: one drawing or painting course preferred. Includes lab fee. See website for materials.
